Permanent vs. seasonal Christmas lights (Orlando area)
There are two ways to light your home for the holidays. Seasonal lights are installed for the season, maintained, then taken down and stored. Permanent lights are a low-profile track along the roofline that stays up year-round and runs from a phone app.
| Seasonal | Permanent | |
|---|---|---|
| General published price (national) | $5โ$10 per foot, every season[1] | $20โ$40 per foot, once[2] |
| Paid | Each year | One time (plus any service plan) |
| Uses | Christmas season | Any holiday, game days, everyday accent light |
| Trees, palms, wreaths | Yes | Roofline only. Add seasonal extras separately. |
| HOA | Temporary decoration rules | A fixture on the house; may need architectural approval |
Rough cost math
Using the general ranges, a 150 ft roofline is about $750โ$1,500 per season for seasonal lights[1], or roughly $3,000โ$6,000 once for a permanent system at $20โ$40 per foot[2]. Permanent usually pays off only after several seasons, and only if you'd otherwise hire an installer every year.
Florida weather
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30[3], which overlaps with November installs. Ask what in-season repairs are included. For permanent systems, get the warranty in writing.
Which fits you?
Seasonal fits if you want trees, palms and greenery or may move soon. Permanent fits if you'll use it beyond December and plan to stay. Not sure? Pick "Not sure yet" on the form and ask the installer to price both.
